general info

  • Pain is measured by the person receiving it.

We guarantee you that what makes us cry could make you laugh… Meaning if you follow your breathing techniques which the professional piercer that is hosting you during your appointment, will walk you through.

We ensure that the piercing is done within 3 to 6 seconds. Somebody wants told me anybody can handle anything for 10 seconds. Remember breathe, make sure you’re fed and watered to arrive to your appointment and trust in our process. You’re going to do great. Often the anxiety can be redirected into excitement if you focus on the fact that the piercing only takes a couple of seconds and then your real work begins after that with your healing.

  • Most piercings can be completed within 3 to 6 seconds. Your appointment will be 30 minutes unless you are getting more than two piercings at a time, then he will have one hour with us.

The maximum amount of piercings we will do in one session is three on one person, and this is to ensure maximum efforts on healing.

  • Healing times on piercings vary, depending on the placement of the body as well as the person receiving the piercing.

Most facial piercings will take 4 to 6 weeks to heal, most cartilage piercings will take 8 to 10 weeks to heal, female and male genital exotic piercings can take 10 days to three weeks to heal.

Of course some people do tend to heal faster and have a very good routine around their designated healing time. And other people have more challenges with the healing. Maybe they knocked the piercings around more, or they had an incident that sent them back, Changed the jewellery too early, went into a swimming pool or hot tub, etc.

Just remember to keep track on the calendar, and anytime you have a setback that amounts in any blood from the piercing, you set yourself back a week in your healing.

Feel free to contact us anytime and we will help monitor the length of time before you can consider yourself healed

  • For most Piercings we get to see you two weeks after the initial procedure is done. This is so we can book you in for a care appointment and start working on the custom fitting of your new jewelry.

During this appointment we will always offer you the option to jazz it up a little bit. Pick the bead of your choice that reflects your personality more. This is the halfway point of your healing, most people need another downsize or custom fitting on their jewellery before they’re fully healed. This is just in response to the body swelling and the internal healing being completed.

You do not want to physically remove the jewellery that we install in you until this process has been completed. Either two downsizes, or you have reached the duration of the healing given to you by the piercer.

  • We will pierce somebody three times during one appointment.

This is the number of procedures that we have found that amount to a full and complete healing within the timeframe is given. In my extensive experience, I have given people more than three piercings at a time and healing amounts to a very long duration, and often the person lacks the endurance to keep up with the routine necessary for all of the piercings to heal relatively around the same time. Causing infection and also sometimes having to take one of the extra piercings out due to it just not healing.

We want everybody to succeed after they leave our shop, and unless somebody is extremely advanced and willing to take on the commitment of healing the piercings we will always stick to our a three piercing per person policy.

  • We will be starting a program in the spring where we will be taking children as young as six years old in our Nelson location for ear piercing.

We would like all of our clients to be fully consenting, and active members in not only the procedure but the healing as well. We believe that this form of body modification is about taking ownership of yourself and adorning the skin that you’re in.

MORE INFO ABOUT KIDS EAR PIERCING

If you are 16 years or older than you do need to bring government issued photo ID in validating your age and identity. If you are between the ages of 16 and 18 and still living at home, consider that just because you can sign for yourself, but that will mean and how you will be supported at home, in some cases remember you still have to live with your parents.

  • Your body‘s first response to getting any for an object implanted into it is to swell. It is trying to bring as much blood flow to the area so that it can respond to the foreign object.

We always leave extra length on the jewellery when you initially get pierced to account for this very natural course of healing. Sometimes swelling isn’t one and done, it will reoccur throughout the first week of healing.

Depending on the person it can take up to two weeks for the initial swelling to completely go away. In order to move through this phase of natural healing easily and quickly, you will want to ice this piercing as much as you can. Cold compresses or straight up clean ice is an incredible way to naturally facilitate this part of the healing, and be able to come and see us sooner to get that far shortened so you can start living and loving this piercing.

  • We take cash or E transfer on the day of the appointment.

If you have been a last-minute cancellation or a no-show in the past, we will make a note on your file, and you will be required to pay a 50% deposit of your next procedure before being able to book.

If you would like to purchase aftercare or jewellery from us and we arrange a noncontact pick up, then you are more than welcome to send us an E transfer. If your E transfer takes longer than three days to be received in the future we will ask that you bring cash.

  • Make sure that you come fed and watered to your appointment. Don’t over eat or over drink and make sure that you’re extremely hydrated. Drink water the day before the piercing as well as the day of, consciously, make sure that your body is hydrated and you are prepared.

If you are somebody that tends to faint or feel faint, you can have a drink with you or something that will help pick you up… Sugar is helpful. We have suckers on hand for anybody that does feel nauseous or faint during the procedure at all. Remember to tell yourself that the piercing only last between 3 to 6 seconds, and that anybody can do anything for 10 seconds. You’ve got this.

Showing up for your appointment is the hardest thing, once you’re there you’re committed, we are totally here for you and will make the procedure as flawless as possible.

  • Piercing studios are becoming a thing of the past. For sure you can always go to a tattoo shop and there’s a back room that somebody’s doing piercings out of, but Lions lair body piercing has been a professional Piercing studio set up in the west Kooteney‘s of British Columbia Canada since 2006, we’ve expanded our wings during times of growth and had multiple locations, and at other times retreated back to the single location that we still call home.

Lions lair body piercer‘s are trained in not only safe procedures, but in intensive healing and aftercare once the piercing has been completed. We are constantly modifying our own bodies so that we can stay in the practice of what our clients are going through. Because we have been located in such a small community like area, what we do matters. Our work speaks for itself, and it’s through time, dedication, and a commitment to this craft that we will always offer a service that you can feel interested and proud of. When you get pierced by Lions lair you become part of our pride.

We use a material in a lot of our initial piercing is called bioplast. This is a PTFE classified plastic that is a medical grade silicone base. This is completely auto clave able which means we can run it through our sterilization process flawlessly. When we pierce with this material, we are eradicating any issues surrounding hypoallergenic sensitivities or metal allergies. We are also able to have shorter healing times because of the compatibility of this material and the body‘s natural healing system. When you come back in to see us for a care appointment we are custom fitting your jewelry, we are not just downsizing it… We do not even remove the jewellery but rather cut and re-thread the bar right in the body. So you are not skipping one second of healing.

We make ourselves extremely available to our clients so if you do have any questions or concerns through a simple text you’re able to have a response from a professional piercer within 24 hours. That’s right you have us in your back pocket.

We do not compromise quality over quantity. Even during the pandemic we were able to scale back and offer top quality jewellery to be pierced with and healing systems that would guarantee healthy happy piercings. We didn’t necessarily have the big display case of extra jewellery that we normally have, but when we focus on what’s really important it’s about providing people with safe and effective procedures, where they can feel comfortable and supported during and after the piercing.

  • First of all, know your gauge size and the dimensions of the jewellery that you would like. Then we can help you shop online. Send us the above information, as well as a couple of inspirational photos of jewellery that you like and we will help you source from reputable suppliers and you will be able to order your piece personally.

If you need any help with installation once you have received your own jewellery you can make a care appointment with us and we will absolutely help you to install, that could mean we could do it for you, or we could teach you how to change your jewellery so that you also have that knowledge under your belt.

If you do not know the above information then please book in a care appointment with us and also let us know what kind of jewellery you were looking for. That way we are able to notify you of what we carry on hand and disclose if we’re able to facilitate your new jewellery needs, or if we need to bring in something extra from one of our suppliers to facilitate you gassing up your new piercing!

  • A care Appointment is a 20 minute appointment that gives you one on one time with one of our professional piercers.

Are you having a piercing issue, is there something you would like us to look at, are you needing help changing your jewelry, maybe you’re at the halfway point of your healing and the swelling and the scabbing has gone and you’re ready to custom fit? Basically anything other than getting a piercing would qualify as a care appointment.

We value the time we have with our clients and we want to make sure that nobody is feeling pushed aside. So by offering these very specific appointments we are allowing enough time for us to thoroughly go through whatever the issue or concern might be and hopefully coming up with a common solution and supporting you in moving forward with that.

healing questions

  • Piercings and bodies can do weird things. During the healing and even years afterwards. You’ve been living in your body for the longest so you know what the best. Before you do anything drastic make sure that you go back to your initial healing and repeat that routine for about 3 to 6 days. If you’re wearing a ring in your Piercing switch it out to a fitted stud as soon as you can that extra movement on the jewellery is definitely helping that bump get larger and larger.

Sometimes people just need to go back to their focussed healing and give their piercing a little TLC and they notice a big difference.

Use Hot compresses if there’s any blood or scabbing, never pick or wipe the scabs but press into the pierced area with a disposable wet hot paper towel.

If the sensation is more irritated or internal and if you have any discomfort or awareness around the piercing… Then definitely ice it. Ice ice baby, as much as you can for those 3 to 6 days along side using your aftercare solution (either H2Ocean or Lionslair Body solution oil)

If you were given a Lions lair body solution to heal continue using that for the next 3 days of focussed healing. straight up tea tree oil can be very hard on the skin and also dry out the piercing. Our oil contains an almond oil carrier that is very conditioning for the surrounding area and just allows the keloid to be treated with a natural strong anti-septic. ( please inform us of any almond allergies). If you would like to purchase some of this oil we can absolutely do a noncontact pick up by getting you to send us an E transfer and we will gently place it in the mailbox in the front of the shop in castlegar for you to pick up at your earliest convenience. CONTACT US HERE

If you do not notice any difference in that focussed healing time then you were going to switch to our specifically designed program for healing keloids:

    You’re going to do the 3 2 1 program.

Apply wet heat to the area so the keloid is soft and open, a hot wet paper towel is perfect then Get a Q-tip wet with hot water and apply One drop of Lionslair Body solution to a pointed Q-tip...apply directly to the keloid. If it is happening on the inside as well as the outside and apply both areas. You’re going to do this treatment three times a day for three days, and then two times a day for two days, and then once a day for one day. 321✨

If you are using the Lionslair body solution there is no need for the Q-tip just apply one drop to a clean washed fingers and massage the keloid with the solution on your finger.

If you can alternate icing the piercing in between the hot compresses and Lions Lair Solution you’ll see the best results. Yes this is a lot, but in order to shift the pattern of your body‘s natural course of scarring, it takes disturbing the tissue, and working with healthy natural products that retrain your skin.

This should absolutely diminish the keloid.

If you found that you been able to get rid of most of the keloid but the last little bit just won’t go away please book a care appointment with us and we will help in person.

Rule of thumb : For however long you’ve had the bump, or keloid is however long it takes to treat and get rid of the keloid.

The first initial signs of a keloid are an acute awareness around the piercing for no reason. It’s almost as though you are trying to remember if you caught it or snagged it, but you didn’t. This is the internal part of the piercing starting to activate the scarring to grow the bump on the outside of your body.

If you’ve ever had a cold sore you’ll know that you’re getting one because you’ll have that internal discomfort on your lip before anything manifests to your skin. Keloids are very similar..

Keep in touch let us know how it goes we are always curious and wanting the best for our clients procedures. If there’s anything you need in person don’t hesitate to book a care appointment with us!

  • With clean hands make sure that you get some ice on that piercing ASAP. Absolutely freeze the entire area. As long as the ice is clean you can apply directly to the area. If it’s on your ear ice your entire ear, if it is your nose, ice the inside and the outside of your nose.

Most likely you will have created some micro tears so know that within 24 to 48 hours of doing some focussed icing, that your body is going to start creating scabs and the piercing will get crusty. Do not pick any of these scabs rather use a hot compress and press into the area. Use the hot compresses 2 to 3 times a day as well as your aftercare solution that you were given by one of the Lions Lair Piercers .

Give it about a week of focussed healing to get it back to where it was before the incident happened.

  • Just like how you have to work in order to get your piercing healed, there are steps that you have to take in order to get an infection as well. If you noticed that you developed a bad habit of touching your piercing with dirty hands, or you have stopped using your healing solution prematurely, maybe you went into a pool, hot tub, or body of water that wasn’t healthy for your piercing, have you change the jewellery too early…

There are many factors that contribute to infections in piercings. The difference between ear piercing being aggravated, or angry, versus infected, is that there is a reason for the infection. So without judgement look back at your habits and try to figure out what the cause could have been.

Either way you will notice that there is green sour smelling discharge coming off of the piercing, they will be tenderness in the piercing and surrounding area, and that piercing will be generating a lot of heat.

Never remove the jewellery if there are any of the above signs. We will want to increase the amount of times w’ere using the H2 ocean (up to six times a day) accompanied by hot compresses before using the spray.

If you have the Lionslair Body solution then you will want to hot compress the area as well as apply the oil directly to the piercing up to three times a day.

As you notice the visible symptoms going away and the tenderness reducing, reduce the amount of spray and or oil that you are using.

  • As a professional body piercer and also somebody who had my ears pierced multiple times by a gun as a child - if you're talking about proper sterilization practices including the environment that you're doing procedures in, the tools that you're using, and the clients body, the gun just doesn't make any sense.

Yes you might have all survived the ear piercings at Pharmasave, or Claire's, but most likely we, including myself, ended up with some kind of a metal sensitivity, and definitely had to have our earlobes fixed at one point due to the googly-eyed placement that we ended up happening due to natural growth.

First of all when your pierced with a gun there will be an off-spray of blood borne pathogens up to 3 meters with the trauma and force of the gun. So even if that little cap on the end of the gun is changed and a new end is put on the machine each time, the entirety of the tool is covered in multiple people's pathogens. Spraying the device with alcohol only further solidifies this biohazardous matter to stick to metal and such device. Seriously if you cut yourself and get blood on a knife, try to spray it with alcohol to get it off. It doesn't it solidifies and needs to be scrubbed viciously. Still leaving microscopic pathogens. So this machine is dirty.

Placement of ears is also quite tricky to actually achieve a straight look for the longevity of someone's life. If we're piercing our little ones at a young age and they are consenting that is one thing, but to pierce somebody's ears who is verbally unable to consent means that their body has a lot of growing and changing to go. The ears might look great as infants, even toddlers, but as the ears grow up the placement will vary and change. I can say that 1 out of 5 people, mostly grown women, come to get their ears fixed. Finally. They've been living with lopsided earrings for most of their life because they had them done as very young children with a gun.

The people using this barbaric equipment are not professionally trained in placement. No two ears are the same shape size or located on the same spot of the head. So with all of these inconsistencies to consider it's important to be trained and giving somebody a lifelong piercing. Not something that will suit them temporarily, and then cause them to have to fix it in the future because of the inevitable and obvious factor of growth.

Piercing guns basically use blunt force trauma to tear a hole in the earlobe tissue with a barbed stud. It is then followed by an extremely tight backing that suffocates the body's ability to increase the blood flow to the area, swell, and create a proper cavity for the jewelry to sit in. It is going against your body's natural ability to heal itself.

Your body has to work twice as hard to heal in this traumatic way as there is no cavity or channel given for the jewelry to sit in and then heal around. The crusties or micro-scabs are a healthy sign of a piercing healing well. As long as they are white yellow or red in colour, with no odour, and there's plenty of length on the bar so that said lymph can discharge out of the ear. Creating a healthy happy cavity that can have any jewelry worn in it, once fully healed (4 weeks with our method).

When we pierce with one time use needles it is a very clean, simple fast procedure allowing the skin to fold open clearing a pathway for the jewelry to sit.

As Kierra Cates said, “At Lions Lair Body Piercing we use hypoallergenic jewelry to further honour the fact that the first invitation of foreign objects into a body should be a safe and sound one. When the ear lobes are pierced with a gun not only is it a traumatic entrance for the body to have a foreign object smashed into it like that, and then expected to heal. But often these clients will have a metal allergy or at the very least a sensitivity introduced from a very young age. I know this is how I developed my extremely harsh allergy to anything with nickel containing in it. Including gold. Yes 14 karat gold does contain nickel.”

At Lion's Lair body-piercing we are concerned about the longevity of people's piercings and only having to pay once. So by introducing the ears in a safe friendly Health board approved sterilized atmosphere, using one time one use equipment, professional placement, and hypoallergenic jewellery we are doing everything we can to bring this very simple yet technical procedure out of the Dark Ages of guns in hair salons, to professional body modification Studios. With willing participants who are able to be involved in their healing from start to finish, we strive to create relationships with our customers that allow 24 hour care without question, and always bringing the best of the best as far as jewelry and techniques to the Forefront.

At the end of the day it's your choice how you want to show up in this world, how you would like your children to be involved in the way they show up in this world, we always encourage their participation as you would be surprised when they do have the chance to sign that waiver themselves and pick out their own jewelry it is quite an amazing experience for all parties included. We had pierced as young as four years old, ears that is , with the understanding of the totality of this procedure. We always get the little ones involved to the point where they're actually repeating all of the Aftercare back to us at the end of the day and showing us how they're going to clean their ears.

  • Ensure that you’re not on any medication that causes the blood to be thinner and if you failed to mention that to the piercer just connect with them and let them know, so they can be aware of your progress.

Using pressure with a clean disposable paper towel to the piercing and having that paper towel be ice cold, will definitely help with the extended bleeding.

Sometimes we choose placement of the piercing over placement of the anatomy. Which means there can be veins that get knicked in the process. Avoid activities that are going to increase your heart rate, such as working out.

Prepare, make sure that you have an emergency kit with you so if you are out in public and it starts happening you’re able to take care of it with a sterile cleaning system. Clean paper towel, your aftercare solution, and potentially even a Band-Aid. Piercings will tend to bleed often on for about three days after the initial procedure. Make sure that the environment that the piercing is touching is always clean, pillowcases hair etc. and just like any open wound on your body as soon as it starts to heal the external bleeding will definitely stop.

  • Unconscious dirty hands touching the piercing, changing the jewellery to early, changing the jewellery to a lower quality metal where an allergy or sensitivity can occur. Not continuing your cleaning after you’re healed when your body needs it.

It’s not that you have to continue to heal your piercing after you have reached that goal, but top ups are really nice and taking the jewellery out and giving the entire piece a good clean every so often is a fabulous idea.

Pools hot tubs, dirty rivers and lakes… If you would not hypothetically fill up a glass of water and hold it in your mouth, then you should not be putting your fresh piercing or healed piercing in that water for a long period of time.

  • As a kid of the 90s, I tried my hardest to heal piercings through using random piercing sprays and or alcohol/hydrogen peroxide solutions. Not only did it take so very long, but it was actually painful to heal the piercings. And I felt like my body was fighting them so hard, that eventually it gave up and healed. This is not the kind of focus we wanna have in the 20th century.

Creating a healing system that facilitates the body’s natural course of healing, learning and educating ourselves about our bodies, and using ethical products that enhance the good bacteria as opposed to eradicating all of the bacteria has been a key element to us reaching our healing times. Antibacterial soaps and turning a crusties are a thing of the past… Thank goodness we have come out of the dark ages.

H2Ocean is an incredibly reputable piercing aftercare spray, and provides a consistent and concentrated saline solution. So yes you can make a saline solution at home, but you will not have the same consistency that you will with this product, every time you turn the tap on there is a different constitution of water coming out, depending on what kind of salt do you use there can be different variables with that, Not to mention that you’re going to want to make a new saline solution every three days to account for the contaminants by opening and closing the container that you will be housing it in. So keeping your healing consistent, keeping it clean, and getting a good routine will only help heal you faster. And H2ocean has been facilitating that with us since 2009.

  • Dear God no, this is an old technique used in the dark ages of the 80s and 90s lol.

Any external scabs that are collecting on the outside of your piercing is your body‘s way of healing. Just like if you were to have a cut on your knee if you continually pick that scab off it doesn’t mean that you’re magically healed. As a matter of fact it means that your body has to work harder to form another scab to try to support it the internal healing.

Instead of picking wiping or turning the crusties, celebrate them. Give yourself a big old hi5 and know that you have gotten to the phase of your healing where your body is starting to accept the piercing. You never want to pick or wipe or turn crusties at all, instead use a hot compress, which is a disposable paper towel immersed in hot water and then pressed into the piercing. You can do a hot compress as many times as you like, you will notice that there will eventually be no discharge on the paper towel after removing it from the crusty, this is when you can use your aftercare solution and go on with your day!

  • Every body is different, so not only do our physical bodies heal in different ways, but our environmental lives do play a part in our healing times. It’s important to take inventory of all of that. If you are just somebody that crashes through life then your piercings are going to be in that same boat, if you are extremely cautious and very very routine orientated and you will absolutely most likely reach the healing times we give you.

But that’s not always the case for everybody, so if your healing is taking longer be gentle with yourself first of all, and then be gentle with the piercings… Keep a small calendar aside so that you can keep track of all of the setbacks and give yourself a realistic healing goal. Stay the course with the hot and cold compresses as well as the after care solution, and be prepared for when things go wrong. Those little setbacks- have a small kit (clean paper towel, Q-tips, aftercare solution, band-Aids) for when you’re in public so if you do catch or whack or smack your new piercing you’re able to treat it and not wait until you get home.
