kids ear lobe piercings

It’s 2023 and we are coming out of the dark ages of kids getting pierced in the back of a pharmacy, hair salon or cheap accessory store.

Our little ones deserve better and Lions Lair has created an incredible program that is health board-approved and focussed on consent, education, safety and continuous customer care. We empower your children to be a part of the process every step of the way.

Our professional kids’ ear piercers have been trained specifically to provide a professional and personal piercing experience for kids as young as the age of 6. We are currently operating this program in Castlegar Monday - Friday from 1 pm - 6 pm.

KIDS POLICY

We want all of our clients to be fully engaged in the procedures they're getting and involved in their own self-care and healing. All of our clients have to be able to sign their own consent form, and pick out their own jewelry, as well as cognitively repeat back healing instructions.

We use consent as a tool to move forward during the appointment. So you will notice that the piercer will ask the child a question of consent in order to move forward to each step of this process.

Example- “OK, are you ready to come back to my piercing room now? Is it OK if I touch your ear? etc”. if the child says “no” to any of the intentional consent questions, the piercer will kindly work with them through each stage of comfortability.

During the consultation before the piercing happens, the piercer will be assessing the child’s ability to trust us. Physical signs of pulling away, no eye contact, and nonverbal behaviour will be diagnosed through our extensive experience with little ones as signs of not yet being ready to fully complete the piercing. Often after these actions are displayed the child will most likely only complete one piercing and then inevitably a state of upset and anxiety (tears often) will follow. This is not how we want to work with clients and we will not force the second piercing, and just DO IT, as some parents urge us.

If the child says ‘no’ or is not giving their consent to any of the steps leading up to the piercing, not only will the piercer work with them and encourage them in the best way they know how, but the clock will be ticking and if too much time is taken the appointment will not be able to complete with the ears being pierced. The parent is responsible for paying the full price. If the 30-minute time is completed without the piercings being completed, we will bag the sterile jewelry and give it to the parent to take home and possibly try another time.

We try to leave the decision in the parent's hands whether or not they're willing to go forward with their children and confidently feel the procedure can be complete, as you will be responsible for paying for the allotted time.

Please be aware that if your child is actively enrolled in swimming lessons we strongly advise against piercing your child’s ears until they have completed their lessons and won’t be swimming until their piercings are healed.
